What to Ask Yourself when Your Employees are Afraid to Commit

When employees are given the opportunity to 鈥渄o good鈥 through their work,听they are more likely to feel that their well being is valued by their company, and will reciprocate by developing听affective commitment. You鈥檝e never heard of affective commitment? Not only is it the key to effective management strategy, but it鈥檚 the secret to understanding what鈥檚 going on with your employees, your families, and the world around you.
It鈥檚 really nothing to be afraid of.
In this听context,听commitment听refers to the degree of attachment an individual feels toward the organization he or she works for. If you鈥檙e a manager or the leader of a company, this is something you obsess about.听Do my employees want to stay?听Will they stick it out through tough times?听Do they believe in this organization as much as I do?
While nothing is going to stop us from obsessing about those questions (not necessarily a bad thing), let鈥檚 at least organize the conversation into听three types of commitment听and then 鈥 perhaps 鈥 make our way to better questions.
